The 2026 Rule Book!
We now have a 2026 rulebook. They have not released an official change log yet but the IDPA website lists the changes below. It doesn’t seem to be complete as it doesn’t include the new rule 3.5.10.4 that clarifies that you cannot move back to see multiple target arrays for multiple positions of cover from one spot. It also states that 3.5.10.3 allows for reloading outside cover positions if targets are not visible but the rule itself does not appear to override the rules requiring cover to reload.
The preliminary change list is:
2.2.3– A Firearm with a non-functional manual safety is a DQ.
2.9.1.3– Muzzle exclusion Zone only required for doorknobs and handles.
3.2.1.5– Targets in the open are a higher priority than targets available from cover.
3.2.3 – Update the definition of activated targets and how they can be engaged.
3.5.10.3– Vision Barriers provide protection for reloads.
5.2.2.4- Intentionally engaging (discharging the firearm) at anything other than a target or an activator is an FP.
8.1.3.5– BUG is now 8+1.
If you are a returning old timer remember that there were major changes in 2022:
- You can drop an empty magazine with a round still in the chamber.
- Appendix carry holsters are allowed, with new allowable holster positions defined for both OWB and IWB.
- SSP magazine capacity is 15 rounds.
- CCP magazine capacity is 10 rounds and power factor is 105.
- Retention (shooting from) and magazine stowage are now defined.
- Cover position fault lines must be from 3′ to 8′ long and no longer extend to the stage boundary.
